HIGHLIGHTING THE WORLD OF WOMEN'S SPORTS BY SHARING NEWS, DATA, AND RELEVANT CONTENT.

What we do

SHOT:CLOCK is a statistics-driven women's sports media platform. Founded in 2019, it was created to increase the amount of women's sports media coverage available to the everyday sports fan. At the time, women's sports received only 4% of all media coverage. SHOT:CLOCK highlights the world of women's sports (and women in men's sports) through a "facts-only" lens, focusing on data, contextualized comparisons, and relevant information. Our co-founder and now sole-proprietor, Mara Fitzgerald, has built the platform to let the facts speak for themselves, hoping to allow viewers to easily digest the information and form their own conclusions.

About our team

MARA FITZGERALD, FOUNDER & HEAD OF CONTENT

Mara is an architectural engineer and project manager in the commercial construction industry. In additional to her work in construction, Mara is a life long athlete (now coach) and the operator of SHOT:CLOCK. Her experiences in athletics, coaching, engineering, and construction all share a common thread - women are seen as "other." Whether it's having no women's restrooms on a construction site or being given second-rate game times for her basketball team, Mara is repeatedly reminded that these industries were not built for women. Though Mara's primary professional life exists in construction, she created SHOT:CLOCK as a way to advance her personal passion of leveling the playing field for girls and women in sports. As an engineer, she knows that knowledge is power - SHOT:CLOCK helps to educate people on the state of women in sports and the progress that is still needed to achieve equality.

Nora is a rising junior at the University of Michigan where she is studying to receive a bachelors degree in Media and Communications. Outside of her school work, Nora plays club basketball and holds an executive role as the Women's Club Basketball Director of Communications and Social Media. Nora is also an analyst for Michigan Sports Consulting Group on campus where she works with clients in the sports industry to create analytics-based marketing strategies. Nora's love for sports (primarily basketball) led her to play four years of high school varsity basketball and one year of Division III college basketball at the University of Rochester. While at Rochester, Nora helped establish the Black Student Athletic Coalition, serving as Communications Chair to create a safe space and advocate for black athletes. Nora has also publicly advocated for women’s sports by speaking in front of Congress about the need for equity following the reveal of discrepancies in the Kaplan Report. Through Nora’s experiences in athletics, she’s seen women (specifically women of color) be overlooked and undervalued. Nora joins the SHOT:CLOCK team with the desire to prove that women’s sports are THE sports to watch.
